"Pierre Labrouche : "village Of Old Castile""
Pierre Labrouche (1876-1956): "Village in Old Castile", oil on canvas from the Maison Blanchet 83.5 X 92.5 cm, mounted in an exceptional dark oak frame with reverse slope 111 X 119 cm. Various labels and annotations on the back tell us that this painting dates from 1936, that it was exhibited at the Salon of the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts of which he was a member and esteemed (Admitted automatically!) and presented with another painting, No. 1 of the same subject, but from a different angle, information that we know for having sold it 20 years ago! Even partially eaten away by silverfish, a pencil annotation put us on the trail for our research on the Net: it is the small village of Pancorbo at the foot of the Obarenes Mountains in the Province of Burgos. The Artist who gave us landscapes from the Basque Country where he was from, Morocco, Italy and of course, as here, Spain, which he knew well. Labrouche's characteristic touch admirably serves the minerality of the site, both built and natural. Museum. Do not hesitate to ask us for photos or additional information by email or telephone.
