Maxime Noiré. Moselle 1861- Algiers 1927. He arrived in Algiers in 1882 and settled in a house-studio in "Frais-vallon", near Bab el Oued. He shows a constant ardor to travel the country in all directions, in search of new pictorial horizons. He was one of the founders of the Society of Algerian and Orientalist Artists in 1897 and one of the pillars of its salons. He was also a member of the Artistic Union of North Africa. He participated in the Universal Exhibition of 1900, in the exhibitions of the Society of French Orientalist Painters in 1902 and 1906. The State acquired two of his works, "the Sahara" in 1902 attributed to the Ministry of Colonies and "Bou-Saada" in 1906. Fans from all over the world acquired his Algerian landscapes. He was ranked out of competition at the colonial exhibitions in Marseille in 1906 and 1922, and was a member of the jury at the Universal Exhibition in Brussels in 1910. He was accepted as a marine painter in 1905. In October 1927, shortly after his death, a retrospective was dedicated to him in Algiers, as part of the 3rd exhibition of the Artistic Union of North Africa. His daughter organized two other retrospectives in Algiers in 1935 and 1941.
