"Roger Capron - Rare Wall Flower Vase"
Creator: Roger Capron (1922-2006). Style: mid-century modern / 1960s / brutalism. Place of origin / date of manufacture: Vallauris, France, late 1950s / early 1960s. Condition: excellent. Wear consistent with age and use. No chips or cracks. A rare wall flower vase by roger capron in white ceramic with patterned design created using paraffin during the glazing process, as well as a black / yellow painted pattern on the belly. This large piece (20cm) is initialed at the flat of the back "RC" for roger capron. It is in perfect condition. Roger Capron studied applied arts in Paris then moved to Vallauris in 1946 where he founded a ceramics workshop, contributing to the local renaissance of ceramics. In 1952, he purchased an abandoned pottery and opened a small ceramics factory, with 15 workers. By 1957 he had established a considerable international reputation. In 1980 his factory employed 120 people and during that same decade he reverted to making one-off pieces which were shown internationally. Following an economic crisis, the factory was closed in 1982. Capron died in 2006, leaving behind a considerable body of work that is recognized worldwide.
