The work, small in size and therefore easy to place in a room, is teeming with very lively details. It is signed at the bottom right.
Condition: Work in very good condition, clean. It is offered in a large wooden and stucco frame, dating from the first half of the 19th century. This frame has some old restorations and some traces of wear.
The artist
Jan Peeter Verdussen was born around 1700 in Antwerp. His father was a battle painter. Jan Peeter Verdussen left Flanders for Italy in 1943. He then became a painter at the court of the King of Sicily, Charles Emmanuel III. From 1746, he lived in France, first in Marseille and then in Avignon, where he was able in 1763. Verdussen is known for his battle scenes, his equestrian scenes and his hunting scenes. His works are held by several museums and have been the subject of numerous public sales.
