Object description :

"Large 19th Century Restoration Period Solid Silver Chocolate Cup And Saucer. "
Magnificent and heavy chocolate cup and its saucer from the beginning of the 19th century, between 1819 and 1838.

The saucer is in plain silver decorated with a frieze of water leaves and pearls on the rim.

The cup rests on a pedestal decorated with the same frieze that is also found on the lip.

The swollen belly is encircled halfway up with a frieze of laurel leaves.

The handle has a superb decoration of a cornucopia overflowing with fruit eaten by a goat's head.

The cup is formerly vermeiled, there are traces of it in the hollows.

The cup is hallmarked:
. Goldsmith's hallmark erased and illegible
. Old man's head, hallmark for Parisian silver 950/°° between 1819 and 1838
. Head of Ceres, hallmark of large guarantee for the same period
. Greek woman's head, called Janette Révolutionnaire, hallmark used between 1792 and 1838.

. Later boar's head hallmark, after 1838

Magnificent large cup with a very elegant decoration, still in the imperial style. Its dimensions and weight make it an important piece of first quality.

12.5 cm high at the handle
12.8 cm in diameter at the rim
16.8 cm in diameter for the saucer

137.9 grams for the saucer
