The work of an accomplished portrait artist, with a perfectly executed rendering of the skin tones, subtly blending the pinks into the milky white of the skin with fine hints of blue. The depiction of the bird's soft, downy texture is so lifelike that one feels tempted to reach out and touch it. The drapery is equally well-rendered.

In perfect condition. The painting has been thoroughly inspected, as pastel is sensitive to mold; the inner glass and frame have been cleaned. A photo was taken with a jeweler’s loupe. The oval frame, in rocaille style, is made of wood and gilded stucco, in very good condition, with a few small, discreet, and re-gilded losses.

Dated to the late 19th to early 20th century.
