"Eugène Claude (1841-1923), Still Life With Pheasants And Apples, Autumn Scene"
Magnificent oil on canvas representing an autumnal still life, signed Eugène Claude. Presented in a chiaroscuro atmosphere, typically autumnal victuals are arranged on a stone floor. A large basket filled with apples is positioned in the background, two pheasants and two partridges are arranged in front of it. This superb painting is of a truly striking realism, entirely representative of the work of this artist. Eugène Claude (Toulouse 1841- Asnières sur Seine 1923) exhibited from the age of twenty. Notably rewarded at the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1889, he remains famous for his still lifes, his floral and animal representations. He is still exhibited in many museums: Toulouse, Reims, Mulhouse, Amiens and Algiers. Our painting is in good condition. It has benefited from two small canvas reinforcements (see photo 12) and tiny material repairs. These restorations are old. It is presented in an old frame in gilded wood and re-lacquered in places which has patina wear (see photo) Dimensions with frame: 105.5cm x 86.5cm Dimensions of canvas alone: 92cm x 73.5cm
