This composition, entitled "Vive l'Empereur" (long live the emperor), was created in 1914 by the French sculptor Charles Edouard Richefeu (1868-1945). Acclaimed by critics, the French State bought a model of more than 3 meters high which is today exhibited in Paris at the Invalides (see photo). Other identical sculptures but of smaller dimensions were then also made, like our bronze.
Signed "Ch. Richefeu" on the base, it also bears the signature and stamp of "Susse Frères" in Paris, one of the most renowned founders of his time.
It was casted circa 1914. Very detailled with the highest quality carving.
Very good state of conservation with a superb patina. Missing the bayonet and a tassel on the bearskin.
