"Pair Of Chinese Paintings, Rose Favre, Circa 1910"
Rare pair of portraits of Westerners dressed as rich Chinese characters. French School, signed lower right Rose FAVRE, circa 1910-1920. Painted on hardboard panels, appeared in 1898. The psychology of the characters is very well rendered in these portraits of witty people (artists, writers) who had themselves represented as Chinese or Japanese, a fashion that was all the rage after the appearance of Japonism in the 1870s. At the back of the male character, a painting on silk representing a maritime scene (?). Larges dimensions of 1.53m x 0,64 m.
