A souvenir of the Grand Tour
Iconography linked to archaeological discoveries was a popular theme for Italian artists in the 19th century. Mostly intended for the English and French, these small bronzes were intended to be taken to neighbouring countries as souvenirs of the trip to Italy. There is a whole production linked to this trip, such as small mosaics, marble busts and so on.
