"Crayfish Tail Skirt For Bustling In Moiré Faille - France Circa 1885"
Circa 1885 France Large lobster tail skirt forming the train of an elegant bourgeois woman from the beginning of the Third Republic around 1885. Lime or water green moiré silk faille with large religious pleats in front and large asymmetrical puffed back to be worn over a bustle cage. Trimmed with gold, red and green figured velvet bias. Complete with its original cotton chintz waist belt, the interior assembly is very clever and fully lined with white tarlatan and cream taffeta to ensure a good fit. Interior cotton ties to tie accentuate the puffed silhouette on the back ending in a lobster tail. A "broom" in linen and starched lace completes the portrait under the same tail. This type of outfit was magnified by French Impressionist painting including Auguste Renoir. No defects apart from slight traces of dirt on the front (difficult to notice), otherwise goose not rocket and solid. To wear, display or copy!. Good general condition. Dimension: Equivalent to women's size 44-46 France, we will say to bourgeois generosity! Waist size 100 cm, height in front 120 cm, height behind 140 cm.
