"Orientalist Engraving “thamar And Judah” From The Restoration Period "
Beautiful orientalist engraving after the homonymous painting by Horace Vernet (1789-1863), kept at the Wallace Collection in London. It is published by Goupil and Vibert Paris and entitled "Thamar and Judah". It is in very good condition. Its frame is also in gilded wood. Thamar or Tamar was the "wife and widow in turn of the first 2 sons of Judah, Er and Onan, she remains without offspring from them and uses a subterfuge to unite with Judah who refuses to give her his third son in marriage. From this union will be born the twins Zerah and Perets, ancestors of King David" (Wikipedia)
