"Jacopo Caraglio After Rosso Fiorentino, Apollo, First State, Circa 1525"
The figure of Apollo from the series Gods in Niches by Jacopo Cargalio after Rosso Fiorentino. Copies of the first state of this famous print before Francesco Villamena's clumsy additions are rare. There are,I believe, only two other known Apollos from the first state - those in the collections of the Uffizi and the Albertina. Jacob Binck, a German engraver, made a series of copies after Caraglio's originals, of which quite a number remain, but the German does not follow the elegance or the exact details of Caraglio's originals. This is an opportunity to acquire a major work of the Italian Renaissance, as well as a print that can only be found in the collections of the Uffizi and the Albertina.
