"Liturgy - Incense Burner With Fleur De Lys - France - Early Period - Medieval Goldwork"
Late 16th Century - Haute Époque France This brass censer, typical of the Haute Époque, is a magnificent example of late 16th-century French religious art. Its finely openwork design, decorated with late Gothic motifs, including fleurs-de-lys, symbols of the French monarchy and purity, demonstrates the influence of religious architecture on liturgical objects of this period. Featuring a hexagonal base and its original chains, this censer was used to be hung during processions and other liturgical rituals. The numerous ogival openings allowed the incense smoke to escape gracefully, creating a sacred atmosphere in the church. This object, both functional and decorative, perfectly embodies the refined aesthetic of late Renaissance religious art. Liturgical censers symbolize purification and prayer. Used during religious rituals, this censer played a central role in services, diffusing scents of incense, symbols of the ascent of prayers to heaven. The fleur-de-lis engraved on this censer reinforce its link with royalty and Christian tradition. Please note: Natural wear of the brass, with a beautiful old patina and slight marks of use. Note, a slight lack on one side, without altering the integrity of the object. Dimensions: Censer: 20 cm Total height with chains: 88 cm ALL DELIVERIES ARE MADE BY DHL EXPRESS ONLY!
