High quality secretaire, neoclassical Biedermeier, Austria, circa 1820.
Walnut veneer on hardwood (walnut and mahogany). Partially ebonized and mahogany veneered details. At the front, two carved goose-foot legs with antique patinated gilding and ebonization. At the back, two carved ovoid legs in solid walnut. Three large drawers with entry locks at the bottom and one drawer at the top, all in walnut and mahogany. Two full ebonized columns with brass capitals and bases. Very thick flap with double entry lock in brass. Writing surface covered in new black genuine leather. Two original iron keys, very worked. Interior with 9 small drawers, maple front with brass rings. Two open compartments. Below, a large compartment stained black. Secret hiding place.
