Botticino marble carved. 
This pair of basins is a work of the Grand Tour by reproducing those of large size of the ancient Roman period.
Moreover and rarely in pairs, the cups in centerpieces are never thus organized in such a design of basin. The Grand Tour was an authentic cultural journey before the letter and a small industry of objects was born from it. At the time, the spirit of beauty predominated over authenticity hence the objects in reduction allowing to easily bring back a witness of the last discovery of excavations, as well as the spirit of the beauty of Ancient Art.
Each basin is placed on a base with curved pyramid coffers.
The belly has the base widened in gadroons as for a Medici vase. The edge is encircled with very elegant volutes in ribbons tied in four parts and joining in a fleuron of foliage or on large pearls.
Like their design, the work of these pieces is of a quality without weakness. Botticino marble was used for churches or architectural elements in the 16th century for example. Condition: Excellent condition for this type of object apart from very small chips from use on the lower edge of the base and a repair at a practically invisible angle. Beautiful patina of the marble.
