"Indo Portuguese 17th Century"
Ivory Virgin and Child Standing Virgin and Child, carrying the Infant Jesus. She is dressed in a tunic, tightened at the waist by a thin belt and covered with a cloak placed on her narrow shoulders. The drapery is soft and natural and follows the lines of the body. Under a short veil hiding her hair, her face is outlined with fine and regular features, a straight nose, almond-shaped Asian eyes, and thin lips. The Infant Jesus holds a globe in his hands. The face of Christ shows a great resemblance to that of his mother. He sketches a slight smile. Indo-Portuguese work from the 17th century.
