Seated Buddha in Painted and Gilded Wood Dhyana Mudra The Buddha is shown here sitting in the "Dhyana Mudra" posture: the hands rest on the knees, palm up, with the tip of the thumb touching the tip of the index finger to form a circle, symbolizing unity and harmony. This is the traditional meditation posture in Buddhism and Hinduism. This late 19th-early 20th century piece is entirely hand-carved in a single piece.
