Although of British nationality, William Ablett was born in Paris and spent his entire career in France. In 1897, he entered the Beaux-Arts in Paris on the advice of Jean Léon Gérome, with whom he remained very close friends. In 1907, he joined the Cercle d'Union Artistique and exhibited at the SNBA from 1910 to 1936. A painter, draftsman and engraver, his favorite theme was women. Our work is a large charcoal drawing with highlights of white chalk, red chalk and colors. Signed lower left: William Ablett. Modern, neat frame with bevel and wash and black rod.
