"Paimio Armchair By Alvar Aalto"
Icon of design, this armchair was designed by Alvar Aalto in 1932 during the design of the Paimio sanatorium in Finland. It perfectly illustrates the modernist movement, where aesthetics are defined by the expression of materials alone. The bentwood leg and armrest structures are made by successively gluing layers of specially molded solid wood. The assembly and finishing are still done manually. It has been in production at Artek since 1935. This armchair is part of the MoMA collection. Our armchair dates from the end of the 20th century. The varnish and lacquer are original. Only a few traces of use which give an additional cachet to this emblematic figure of design.
