Object description :

"Great Calvary - End Of 18th / Beginning Of 19th Century "
Beautiful dimension for this wooden Calvary where Christ, finely sculpted, is represented with the skull of Adam surmounted by a serpent. Placed at the foot of the cross, this serpent represents the victory of Christ over sin and death.
By dying on the cross, Jesus would have conquered evil, symbolized by the serpent. This iconography, unusual in the end, underlines the message of redemption and triumph over the forces of evil.
A well-detailed and very homogeneous polychrome work, resting on a terrace supported by four wooden balls.
Dimensions of 108 cm by 41 wide and 17 cm deep.
Dimensions of Christ alone of 56 cm by 35.
Good condition. Missing and slight cracks in the mount
