Wrought iron and steel
Length: 55 cm; Blade length: 43 cm
Total length: 59 cm
Single-edged steel blade, guilloched back, counter-edge, ending in a point, two-thirds of the blade decorated with acid-etched foliage and avian figures. The heel of the blade is rectangular with a thumb rest and circular openings.
On both sides, two birds of prey carrying banners bearing the words ‘Arta Fa de Toledo’ and ‘Ano de 1855’.
Iron frame, triangular hilt centred on military trophies and attributes, straight quillons, filigree four-ribbed spindle, pommel with knob.
Iron scabbard with rivet knob, decorated with a big game hunting scene on one side and bouquets of flowers and foliage on the other.
This dagger was used in two-handed combat and was reserved for the ‘weak’ hand, i.e. the left hand.
