We find the typical touch of the little Alsatian masters of painting XIXe whose works are increasingly rare on the market, and in particular those Italian by Jean Benner.

Born in Mulhouse, twin brother of Emmanuel Benner (1836-1896), his family moved to Paris when he was 6 years old, his father took him to draw at the Louvre. His parents died suddenly in 1849, he returned to Mulhouse and followed the drawing courses of the Industrial Society of Mulhouse. Painter of flowers, he collaborated with the Steinbach & Koechlin workshop, returned to Paris in 1821, a student of Bonnat and Hebert, was joined by his brother, they left in 1865 on a long study trip to Italy: Milan, Venice, Florence, Rome, Naples and Capri, got married in this city where his son Emmanuel was born, who also became an artist and who signed Many Benner. Present many times at the Salon from 1857, his works are kept in the museums of Basel, Belfort, Bern, Colmar Unterlinden Museum, Mulhouse Museum of Fine Arts, Nantes, Strasbourg Museum of Fine Arts, Paris Luxembourg Museum.
