Object description :

"Pair Of Religious Banners – Saint Peter, Holy Virgin Mary Queen Of Heaven – Coats Of Arms"
Early 20th Century France Exceptional pair of religious banners in sublime satin fabric, hand painted. These pieces are finely crafted with soft, lined silk, and end with an elegant tailcoat cutout, decorated with silk pompoms. Description and Symbols: 1. First banner: • Inscriptions: “Tu es Petrus” – Meaning “You are Peter”, a reference to the biblical passage from the Gospel according to Saint Matthew, chapter 16, verse 18: “And I say to you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my Church”. This passage evokes the divine investiture of the apostle Peter as head of the Catholic Church. • Symbol of the keys: The two crossed keys, symbols of Saint Peter, represent the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven, as described in the same biblical passage: “I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven” (Matthew 16:19). One key is made of silver (symbol of spiritual power) and the other of gold (symbol of temporal power), both connected by a cord, symbolizing the papal authority transmitted to Peter and his successors. 2. Second banner: • Inscriptions: “Auxilium Christianorum” – Meaning “Help of Christians,” this title refers to the Virgin Mary, often invoked under this name for her protection and intercession. This title is directly linked to Catholic tradition, particularly after the Battle of Lepanto (1571), when Pope Pius V added it to the litany of the Virgin. • Crowned Marian monogram: In the center of the banner, the monogram of Mary (the intertwined letters “A” and “M”), symbolizing “Ave Maria,” is surmounted by a royal crown. This motif illustrates the veneration of Mary as Queen of Heaven, crowned with glory in the Catholic Church. It is often associated with the title of "Queen of Heaven", mentioned in the book of Revelation (Revelation 12:1): "A great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars". Condition: A few minor stains, but the whole remains in a superb state of preservation. Dimensions: • Height: 2.60 m • Width: 75 cm ALL DELIVERIES ARE MADE BY DHL EXPRESS ONLY!
