"Virgin And Child On A Crescent Moon, Tyrol, Late 15th-early 16th Century."
Crowned Virgin and Child on a crescent moon, sculpted in the round, with relatively well-preserved polychromy and gilding. Southern Germany, most likely Tyrol, late 15th-early 16th century. Original representation of the Virgin and Child, presented half-length, characteristic of a certain type of sculpture that appeared in the West at the end of the 15th and early 16th centuries. The Virgin, with an elongated face, is wearing a crown composed of three checkered circles on which the points with fleurons are placed. From this crown escapes a long wavy hair covering her shoulders. Old restorations to the polychromy and gilding, but general condition quite satisfactory. Lime or poplar wood.
