This burin represents Léon Le Bouthillier, Count of Chavigny, Minister of State, engraved after a painting by Philippe de Champaigne. The engraving is cut inside the plate stroke but at the limit of the subject. Traces of mounting on the back, annotated on the back PW 46 (for Petit Jean Wickert) and RD N°66 for Robert Dumesnil. On laid paper, 3rd state Robert Nanteuil is one of the great portrait engravers of the 17th century, in 1645 he became a student of Nicolas Regnesson, whose collaborator and brother-in-law he became. He settled in Paris in 1647 and became engraver to the king in 1657.
