Robert Nanteuil is one of the great portrait engravers of the 17th century. In 1645 he became a student of Nicolas Regnesson, whose collaborator and brother-in-law he became. He settled in Paris in 1647 and became engraver to the king in 1657. The character: Louis Phelypeaux de La Vrilliere, Marquis de Chateauneuf et Tanlay, Secretary of State, 1599-1681 The engraving is cut inside the copper mark but at the limit of the subject. On laid paper lined with fine vellum. Traces of mounting on the back.
