Japanese lacquered Maki-e box from the Meiji period called Fubako with original cord. Mother-of-pearl inlay work and signed by the maker. To be identified. A beautiful tree with leaves and flowers (most likely cherry tree) is depicted on the top.
In very good condition, no missing parts and only two small nicks to the gilding.
A rarity as it was made for or used by 'A la Marquise de Sévigné' (signed inside), the famous chocolatiers who were famous for their sweets and rare boxes.
