Albert Chevallier Tayler (1862-1925): British painter known for his portraits, genre scenes and works depicting historical subjects. Born in Leytonstone, he studied at the South Kensington School of Art and the Royal Academy Schools in London. He also studied at the Académie Julian in Paris. Tayler gained fame for his realist works and exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy from 1884. His style was inspired by Victorian naturalism and realism. In addition to his portraits, he is recognized for his scenes of everyday life, often characterized by meticulous attention to detail. One of his most famous works is Kent vs Lancashire at Canterbury, a painting depicting a cricket match. Over the course of his career, Tayler moved towards formal portraits, painting members of the nobility and important figures of his time. Good general condition, some minor wear. Natural wood frame.
