Indonesia, Sumatra Island, Batak people, mid-20th century, very pretty and unusual carved bone and hair statuettes depicting a naked woman and man, used as fertility amulets. A pair of very similar statuettes was inventoried in the personal collection of the former Parisian gallery owner Franka Berndt. Another, identical one, depicting a male, is kept at the Hamburg Museum.Height to the top of the skull 11 cm (14.5 cm with hair). The scale indicator in the last photograph is a small model of a lighter from a well-known brand.
Good condition except for a very discreet crack on the lower back of the female statuette, almost invisible and with no impact on the beautiful aesthetic.
