Object description :

"Hsp Painting Vision St Francis Of Assisi Ecstasy Shroud Mary Magdalene XVIIth"
Oil on panel depicting the Vision of Saint Francis of Assisi*, in ecstasy before Mary Magdalene appearing to him with the shroud of Christ; he holds a crucifix, a rosary and a Vanitas placed on his knees, most certainly from the Southern European school, probably after Francisco Ribalta (Spanish painter 1565-1628), from the late 17th-early 18th centuries. This painting is in good general condition. The frame is later. Note: a restored crack in the panel (traces of restoration), some wear and tear on the painting, see photos. *Francis of Assisi Italian Catholic religious, founder of the order of Friars Minor (commonly called the Franciscan order) characterized by prayer, poverty, evangelization and respect for creation. He was canonized in 1228 by Pope Gregory IX and celebrated on October 4 in the Catholic liturgical calendar. One day, while listening to a passage from the Gospel, he received an answer to what he was looking for: to spend his life loving all of creation. He then transformed his life, he made himself poor, he cared to announce the messages of joy, hope and love contained in the Bible, and to bring peace to people and to all of Creation. He dressed in a gray garment and girded his waist with a cord. He thus wore the clothing of the poor of his time. He is often represented in iconography as receiving the stigmata of Christ.
