Wooden tray covered with gold lacquer decoration and the maki-e method of sprinkling metal particles on the still wet lacquer. The decoration depicts a flowering ume tree and pine branches. On the back is a sticker from the Parisian company Escalier de Cristal, whose shops sell both Far Eastern imported items and its own items.

Japan, Edo/Meiji era, 19th century.
