This is a gouache stencil, representative of the Art Deco style. 4 pairs of parrots (+ 1 isolated) are arranged on thin branches, in bright colors, in excellent condition.
The work is titled on the right in Hungarian, "Papagaien". It is signed and dated (1921) on the right.
The work is offered under glass, in a large modern frame in light oak, which highlights the bright colors of the composition.
The artist
Franz REVESZ-FERRYMAN was born in 1893 in Siófok, Hungary. He studied architecture in Budapest, then painting with Walter Sickert and Frank Brangwyn while living in London. He immigrated to the United States in 1923.
Although he painted in oils, watercolors, and pastels, his reputation as an artist is mainly due to his colored woodcuts and colorful stencils.
He earned his living as a stamp dealer, established for many years on Fifth Avenue in New York, but he always practiced his art. His engravings and stencils mainly represent exotic birds and other animals, landscapes and urban life, and folklore.
Revesz-Ferryman's works have been the subject of several public sales. They have been exhibited since 1925 in the United States, in Chicago and New York.
