I recommend going to see the site http://www.jeanclaude-libert.fr/biographie.htm where I have taken all the information below: 1936-38 Jean-Claude Libert begins his higher education at ENSAD (Decorative Arts). He marries Jacqueline Mireau in 1938 and discovers at the same time the Salon d'Automne and Robert Delaunay in 1937, at the international exhibition and at the Salon des Tuileries. He worked in the afternoons in his father Marcel Libert's printed fabric design workshop and began oil painting. 1939-45 After the birth of his first son Patrick, he did his military service as a reserve officer and met Robert Mallet (who later became a writer and rector of the Paris Academy). With the poet Luc Bérimont, a writer and poet, he created a small newspaper for the barracks. When war was declared with Germany, he had to go to the front in the Vosges. After courageously defending himself by protecting his men, he was taken prisoner in the Saarland on May 25, 1940. He was transferred to Oflag 4D, then to Oflag 17A in the Saarland. He tried to escape but was recaptured and changed sides. In captivity, he drew a lot in watercolor and Indian ink. Released by the Americans in April 1945, Jean-Claude Libert returned to his family and his activities as a fabric designer. He shared the management of the fabric design workshop with his father and drew in the evenings at the Grande Chaumière where he became friends with the painters of the Echelle group: Patrix, Cortot, Calmette, Busse, as well as with Michel Thomson, Rebeyrolle, Mouly. He produced a few paintings in his studio on rue de Chézy in Neuilly and outdoors on the banks of the Seine. 1946 Not feeling comfortable in the fabric design workshop, his father gave him a sabbatical year. He took the opportunity to go back down to Villeneuve lez Avignon where he resumed painting and sent a few drawing models to his father who provided him with an income. It was in Villeneuve that he first met Albert Gleizes and Juliette Roche-Gleizes thanks to the poet Raymond Christoflour. He also began to frequent the Galerie de Colette Allendy upon his return to Paris, where he saw Albert Gleizes again. 1947 In Villeneuve, he frequented Elsa Koeberlé, who lived in a beautiful property inside Fort St André, from where he would draw and paint. She introduced him to the poet Jules Supervielle, who would stay with the painter and his wife for the Festival period, the time of the performances of his play Shérazade, directed by Jean Vilar. This is how the TNP troupe came to the Liberts' to see the poet Supervielle to finalize the rehearsals. His first private exhibition took place in Avignon at the Noseda gallery. That same year, he met Albert Gleizes for the first time. He is attracted to the great painter for his plastic research but also by his philosophy of life. From his friendship with him will come a rich correspondence between the two painters. Both are very attracted by the Christian philosophy of René Guénon and the spirit of Lanza del Vasto. 1948 Becomes friends with George Braque in Varengeville sur mer where his parents own a house "Le prémesnil". He is attracted by this light typical of the seaside near Dieppe and likes to go and paint in this place. Also meets the architect Paul Nelson there. Back in Paris, he meets his future wife Yvette at a private view. He sees her again to do her portrait and invites her to go down with him to Villeneuve les Avignon. They will decide to stay there together. 1949 Jean-Claude returns to Paris at the end of 49, his father being ill, to take care of his business and take over the fabric design workshop. He exhibits at the Salon d'Automne and the Salon des Réalités nouvelles. 1950-51 He marries his partner Yvette. They both live on rue Gros in Paris. He frequents the gallery of Colette Allendy who exhibits the abstract painters of the Cobra group and meets Vieira da Silva with whom he will have important conversations. He also meets the painter Jacques Villon and the sculptors Gilioli and Etienne Martin. He continues to see his friend from captivity the painter Jean Edelmann. Death of his father in 1951. He decides to no longer deal with designs for fabrics. 1952-55 Leaves Paris with
