The work is clean and in good condition, placed under glass in a silver metal frame to put down. It is a delicate work, taken from life and enhanced with harmonious colors.
The artist
Gabriel Roby, born September 2, 1878 in Bayonne in France and died May 14, 1917 in Paris (16th) from his war wounds, is a French painter of the Bayonne School. A student of Philippe Jolyet and Léon Bonnat, uncle by marriage of Claude Lévi-Strauss, he left landscapes, portraits and genre scenes evoking the Basque Country, in a post-impressionist and modernist style. Despite the brevity of his career, he is one of the major artists of the Bayonne School. Several of his works are preserved in the museums of Bayonne. Others have been the subject of public sales on several occasions.
