Original frame in wood and gilded stucco with the original label of the gilder on the reverse James Blight / 20 ½ Beresford Street / Jersey

Note: the young girl depicted is probably Beatrice Buckstone (1869-1956), actress and granddaughter of the actor John Baldwin Buckstone, and who posed for three paintings by John Everett Millais. John St. Helier Lander knew Millais very well, who gave him advice in his early days, and the model in our painting has the same first name as Mrs. Buckstone, as well as her long red hair with a fringe. She would have been 23 years old at the date of the painting.
