*Émile Gautier born in 1920 in Saint-Nazaire and died in 2013 in La Chapelle Montligeon. He studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Nantes in 1945 and 1946, before teaching for 35 years at the Ecole municipale de dessin de Saint-Nazaire, where he was the only teacher and then the director.
From 1972 to 1983, he was also the museum's curator and exhibited at almost every edition of the Groupe Artistique de Saint-Nazaire exhibition.
The Brière marsh, the Breton coast, the play of light and nature largely dominated his abundant work of oil paintings and watercolors.
A friend of Jean Fréour, Émile Gautier experimented with different types of painting, from the soft, impressionist landscapes of his early days to the lively, almost cubist paintings of his later years. Émile Gautier wished that after his death, all his works be sold for the benefit of the Association of Friends of the Sisters of the New Alliance of La Chapelle Montligeon, for the construction and development of the Priory founded by his daughter, Sister Marie-Aimée.
