Object description :

"Exceptional Pair Of 15th Century Bas-reliefs Sculpted & Tempera On Gold Background"
We have the privilege of presenting a rare and exceptional pair of 15th century sculpted bas-reliefs, illustrating two poignant figures of Christianity: the Ecce Homo (Christ of the Outrages) and the Mater Dolorosa (Virgin of Sorrows). These works are true testimonies of the medieval sacred art of Northern Europe.

Characteristics of the works:
Subject: Ecce Homo and Mater Dolorosa
Technique: Sculpted bas-reliefs, gold background, polychromy, tempera on crushed chalk
Style: Gothic, Sacred Art
Period: 15th century
School: Northern School (probably Flemish or Dutch)
Dimensions: 51 cm x 32 cm each panel

History and Provenance:
These panels were probably part of an altarpiece that decorated a church in Saint-Malo in the 15th century. After the altarpiece was dispersed, they were preserved in a private collection, passed down from generation to generation. Today, they are offered for sale for the first time in several centuries, after having been cleaned and restored with the greatest care.
They are a beautiful example of Baroque sacred art, with a strong expression of Christian piety and devotion.

Condition of conservation:
The bas-reliefs are in a very good condition of conservation. The cleaning and restoration have been carried out in such a way as to respect the integrity of the works, preserving their original patina and golden splendor. The gold backgrounds, as well as the tempera painted details, are remarkably preserved, offering a depth and luminosity that captivates the eye.

Shipping:
The shipping of these exceptional pieces will be carried out with meticulous care. They will be packed with the utmost care, and shipped via a secure service, with full tracking to guarantee their safe arrival.

Price: The asking price has been specifically studied to stick as closely as possible to the reality of the market, and we can accept a payment in three installments.
