Robert Bouchet (1898-1986) Snow in Crouttes-sur-Marne oil on canvas signed and dated 46x55cm Robert Bouchet, is a French painter and luthier. born in Paris on April 10, 1898 and died on August 15, 1986 He began his career as a painter and exhibited at the Salon des Tuileries, the Salon des Indépendants (1922) and the Salon d'Automne of which he was a member. There he presented canvases depicting Parisian life. In 1946, while the privations of the war were still being felt, Robert Bouchet, who had already frequented the workshops of several French luthiers in the pre-war period (notably Julian Gómez-Ramirez and Davis Enesa), finding himself unable to find a suitable instrument, decided to build his own guitar. This first creation met with great success wherever he performed and he soon received his first orders. His reputation exploded towards the end of the 1950s when Ida Presti, Alexandre Lagoya and then Julian Bream began to perform on his instruments.
