Commemorative goblet offered during the coronation celebrations of the last emperor of Russia, celebrated in Moscow in May 1896. Polychrome enamel decoration on one side of the monograms of the Tsar and Tsarina under the imperial crown and on the other of the imperial eagle of the Romanovs. Dimensions: height 10.5 cm - diameter at the rim: 9.5 cm. Good general condition, some visible losses. These goblets were distributed for the coronation of Tsar Nicholas II and the Tsarina, notably at the Khodynka field. The festivities were to be followed by plays and a hot air balloon launch. Each guest presenting themselves in front of the fountains with their goblet could drink for free, food was also offered. On May 17, 1896, the crowd attracted by the free activities began to head towards the Khodynka field. Around ten o'clock in the morning, a crowd movement cost the lives of more than 1,300 people. The cups from this event earned the nickname "cup of sorrow" or "cup of blood".
