REPUBLICAN GUARD UNIFORM, Third – Fourth – Fifth Republic. 27820

The components are from different eras as mentioned.

Republican Guard trooper helmet for mounted troops, model from 1907, Third Republic.
Helmet entirely in nickel-plated steel. It consists of a shell, a visor, and a neck guard all bordered by a brass strip folded over the outer edge, a band, two chinstraps, a crest, a black horsehair plume approximately 60 cm long, and a plume holder. All fittings are in brass.
The shell, made of a single stamped piece, is stamped at the back with size "55" and the manufacturer "SIRAUDIN". It features 4 vent holes for ventilation on the inside. The visor is lined with green waxed leather (width 5.5 cm). The neck guard lacks the leather lining. Shell depth approximately 13.5 cm.
Front band in relief-stamped brass featuring two laurel branches tied together by a ribbon with a Legion of Honor awarded to the City of Paris on October 9, 1900; at the center, above the branches, the arms of the City of Paris are depicted surmounted by a ribbon bearing the inscription "FLUCTUAT NEC MERGITUR." Height of the front band 6.7 cm.
Crest composed of two flaps (height 8.2 cm) relief-stamped with a decreasing series of gadroons surrounded by a beaded ribbon and separated by an acanthus leaf and a floret. Each flap is attached to the shell with two brass screws; the mask is stamped with 4 horizontally striped ribbons separated by three smooth ribbons, at the lower part a relief-stamped palmette and at the upper part a relief-stamped Medusa head (mask height 11 cm); the top of the crest is partly covered with a "covering plate" representing the hair of Medusa in relief (length 9.5 cm, width 4.4 cm).
Crest ornament composed of a brass olive relief-stamped with foliage (height 2.4 cm, diameter 4.7 cm), a brass socket relief-stamped with laurel leaves (height 2.6 cm, diameter 1.8 cm), and a scarlet horsehair plume (height 6.5 cm) with a scarlet braided wool olive base of 8 mm in height. This ornament is attached to the crest with a threaded brass rod (height 1.8 cm, diameter 0.6 cm), missing the fixing nut inside the crest.
The chinstraps consist of two strong cowhide leather straps covered in black waxed leather, each adorned with fifteen alternately scalloped brass scales and stapled to the leather (widest scale 3 cm, narrowest scale 2.1 cm). At the lower end, the last scale is rounded, and at the outer end the scale has two embossed scallops forming a rosette (diameter 4.4 cm). The chinstraps are attached to the shell with a lock and are connected to each other by a black varnished leather strap with brass buckles. Square-section plume holder slightly tapering downwards (height 3.6 cm).
Interior leather lining cut in wolf's teeth pattern.
Note:
In his work "Le musée de la Gendarmerie - 1871-1-45," Éditions SPE BARTHELEMY, the author Eric Dagnicourt, a senior gendarmerie officer and museum curator at the time, explains that this model of band displaying the coat of arms of the City of Paris reduced to accommodate the Legion of Honor awarded to the city on October 9, 1900, was likely adopted at an unknown date but probably in 1907.

Gold bullion grade lace trim 27 mm wide. At the back, two false vertical pockets with scarlet piped two-pointed edges each adorned with uniform buttons. Shoulder strap loops in matching cloth with an orange trimming edge.
