Portrait of an elegant woman signed De Pommayrac Pierre-Paul Emmanuel (born in Puerto Rico on April 25, 1807, died in Paris on July 10, 1880). Miniature painter, born in Puerto Rico to French parents, he came to France at a young age to study and was a student of Mme de Mirbel and Antoine-Jean Gros. He exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1835 to 1880 and obtained a 3rd class medal in 1835, a 2nd class in 1836, a 1st class in 1842, a 2nd class in 1848. The general trade directory of 1850 lists him in Paris, 51 rue Saint-Lazare. He was knighted in the Legion of Honour on 16 July 1852. Mme de Mirbel listed him under the spelling "M. Pommerac" in a list of her students who appeared at an exhibition in Paris in 1840. He became a miniature painter of the Empress Eugénie and her entourage, and was one of the prominent artists under the Second Empire. He is responsible for the Portraits of the Empress Eugénie and her mother, portraits of Napoleon III (1855), the Prince Imperial (1861), and those of many famous artists of the time such as Mlle Samuel de l'Odéon, Berlioz (1839), Paganini.
