Nice pair of English watercolors from the 19th century representing hunting scenes. They are signed lower left, H. Alken and dated on the right 1827. They are in their original frames. They had been bought in Paris in 1963 by Mr. Bruno de Paillerets as indicated by a label on the back. Henry Thomas Alken "the elder" was born in 1774 or 1785 and died in 1850 or 1851. British. He painted particularly hunting and sporting scenes. He appeared at the Royal Academy in 1801 and 1802. The Manchester Museum keeps "the otter hunt". Dimensions of the watercolors at sight, 15 cm x 11 cm. Slight difference between the frames, one, 24.5 cm x 21.5 cm. the other, 24.5 cm x 22 cm.
