"Leopold Pradere : "escape To The Sea In Bidart""
Léopold Pradère (1869-1941) "Echappée sur la mer à Bidart" watercolor 24 X 33 cm, circa 1920, unframed. Titled and signed on the front, but annotated Route d'Ilbaritz (surroundings of Biarritz) on the back. A wet spot (intentional?) at the top left. A bend in the coastal road reveals the Ocean between two cliffs, probably Erretegia in Bidart. If painting was not his main profession (he was a civil servant at the State Railways), he was nevertheless a diligent artist and exhibitor at the Salons, including the one in Paris. His style, characteristic of the time, where the touches of watercolor come to rest and blend into each other, giving a lot of delicacy. Originally from Haute-Garonne (Marignac-Laspeyre), he lived in Agen and Pau and, on the occasion of his death, a commemorative exhibition was organized for him in Parthenay where he is buried.
