Art Nouveau patinated bronze Phryne - Pierre Etienne Daniel Campagne (1851-1914)
A finely detailed and well cast figure of a nude woman with drapery in her arms and shoulders.
The figurine rests on a bronze base and is signed Campagne on one side, with a plaque on the front Phyrne Devant ses Juges by Compagne Sculpt. Phryne was a 4th century Greek courtesan, renowned for her beauty. Accused of blasphemy (a capital charge), she was defended by the orator Hyperides.
