The pedestal decorated with a star surrounded by the laurels of victory has two levels separated by a frieze of gilded brass.
This bust is signed under the left shoulder "David", a signature used by David d'Angers. On the back is the name of the publisher.
Pierre-Jean David d'Angers, known as David d'Angers: born March 12, 1788 in Angers and died January 6, 1856 in Paris, is a French sculptor and medallist, representative of romanticism in 19th century French sculpture. In 1809, he was awarded a medal by the Academy and was noticed by his namesake, the painter Jacques Louis David, who took him under his wing. He is the author of the Statue of the Grand Condé, which appears in the courtyard of honor of the Palace of Versailles. In 1825, he was named a knight of the Legion of Honor. In 1826, he was elected a member of the Institut de France and a professor at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
