"A 19th / Early 20 Th Century Reproduction Of Rembrandt's "simeon's Song Of Praise""
A late 19th-century / early 20th century reproduction of Rembrandt van Rijn's (1606-1669) Song of Praise of Simeon, 1631 (possibly olie print). Dimensions: 67 x 90 cm with frame, unframed 50 x 70 cm. In the 17th century, history painting – the depiction of allegories, classical history, mythology and the Bible – was common, especially among scholars. As the Gospel of Luke records, the elder Simeon was promised that he would not die before he had seen the Messiah. Rembrandt depicts a divinely enlightened Simeon recognizing the child in his arms. Mary and Joseph are astonished when the prophetess Anna appears before the group to pronounce a blessing.
