"Shigenobu - Kōshohei Transforming A Rock Into A Goat - Japanese Print"
Japanese surimono type print (meaning serving as a greeting card) by Yanagawa Shigenobu, depicting Kōshohei transforming a rock into a goat using a stick.

According to his legend, Kōshohei was a Taoist immortal who began his life as a shepherd. At the age of 15, he followed a Taoist monk without leaving a trace with his family. He then alternated between looking after his flock and practicing mediation.
40 years later, his brother managed to find him after much searching; but he found no trace of the flock.
Kōshohei then grabbed a stick and transformed all the stones he touched into goats. Captivated, his brother then decided to become his disciple.

Japan, 19th century.
Good condition. Please note that the patterns of the Immortal's clothing are slightly golden and that a very light silver glitter sprinkles the surimono, showing the magical character of the scene.

Dimensions of the surimono:
21 x 18.4 cm (shikishiban)
