Note: 2 previously restored breaks (one on the wrist, the other on the foot). Part of a possible garland of roses is probably missing...... Hippolyte MOREAU is a French sculptor born in Dijon (1832-1927). He comes from a family of sculptors: his father, Jean-Baptiste, and his brothers, Mathurin and Auguste. Known for his bronze statues of young women, he also represents subjects, most often inspired by the 18th century, the case of our sculpture. He also sculpted the statue of Clairault on one of the facades of the Hotel de Ville in Paris. He won 2 gold medals at the Universal Exhibitions (1878 and 1900).
