French Desktop Rocaille Gilt Bronze Signed, Maison Millet, Au Faubourg, Circa 1880

Superb desk inkwell, Louis XV rocaille style, heavily loaded of gilded bronzes, framing a polylobed top, herringbone rosewood veneer, two turned solid rosewood cups mounted of openwork bronze, large two-tiered pen rest, gilded interior inkwell and crystal cup, flowered fretwork lids.
Dimensions: 21cm x 22cm x 13cm approximately, weight: 1.2kg.
Signed below: MB, for Blaise Millet, who opened his cabinetmaking workshop in Faubourg St Antoine circa 1857, rue st Sabin. “bronzes and artistic luxury furniture in old styles”. A house awarded a medal at Universal Exhibitions of 1889, Chicago, 1893, St Louis….
